Ruby red color with garnet hues and medium depth characterizes this wine. The ripe fruit is evident, and the nutty taste and vanilla makes this a delicious wine with good structure.
Cheese and prepared meats such as bacon, ham, and sausage come to mind as a very good food pairing with this Rioja from Spain. Yum!
The main varietal grape in this Rioja is Tempranillo, with some Grenache and Mazuelo. It boasts the typical ripe fruit aromas with a vanilla-berry finish. While grapes from La Rioja Alta are used, they are combined with grapes from contracted vineyards in the area.
Quality of the fruit is upmost and always has been with the winery. It starts in the daily care of the vineyards. The fruit is carefully selected at harvest. Fermentation occurs for 10 days in stainless steel vats with a controlled temperature of no more than 30˚C. Maceration follows for 14 days where the juice is still in contact with the skins and daily pumping occurs. The wine is aged for 12 months in American and French noble oak with racking twice. This preserved process accounts for many of the well-regarded wines of the area.
Cuna de Reyes winery was founded in 1999 in the town of La Rioja, which means “Kings’ Court”. Cuna de Reyes means “birth place of kings” and it was only fitting the wines were named such in honor of their town. The winery stresses the tradition of their forefathers, love of land and the wonder it produces—the wine. This is shown in their winemaking processes and end results.
