About the Wine +

The Château Pontet-Caillou is 50% Merlot for the roundness and fruit and 50% Cabernet Sauvignon for the tannin and aging potential. These equal partners produce a particularly wonderful result: a cherry red robe, often containing hints of very ripe red berries and violet, with a smoky bouquet of grilled almonds and resin.

The grapes go through a cold soak prior to fermentation and then are followed by a long and traditional maceration process. The wine spent just over a year in Oak, 40% of which is new.

Pairing with red meat, games and cheeses is recommended, and it can be consumed now or within the next 10 years. Balanced and elegant, this wine has a structure and depth that allows it to age for many years!

About the Winery +

Pessac- Léognan is a prestigious French wine appellation located in the Graves subregion of Bordeaux and is home to the only Graves chateau listed as a first-growth in the 1855 Medoc classification--Château Haut Brion. Owned by Dominique Haverlan, enterprising wine grower, the vines are situated at Léognan on a beautiful gravely hilltop. They are planted at a high density, in a sustainable culture, with the ability to control the yield. A rigorous and highly selective picking process occurs where 50% of the harvest is kept for bottling.

The soil, composed by thin gravel mixed with black sand, on a clayey and gravely sub-soil has all the necessary characteristics to produce great read wines. The soils are deep and have a superior drainage which helps maintain the high quality of Cabernet grapes grown there. Adapted grape varieties to each plot of this area permit to optimize all its qualitative and agronomic potential. Best techniques and agronomic knowledge have been used to create a high quality vineyard worthy of this great soil.

In the words of Haverlan, “I have tried to express all my personality, art and culture throught this wine.”
