This beautifully crafted cuvee combines some of the most prestigious 1er cru vineyards in Beaune. Like all the world-class wines produced by famed Pinot Noir specialist, Roland Masse, the results are truly spectacular. The aromatics are complex, showing black cherry, all spice, and a hint of cedarwood. The wine is well balanced with a sensational mid palate, with vibrant fruit including, black cherry, plum and coffee notes. The blend of the three vineyards allows a balance of the "muscle power” of the Cent Vignes, with the “roundness” of the Bressandes, and the “finesse” of the Teurons. The oak is well integrated, and the harmony of the blend make it drinkable now and cellar worthy through 2018. It is suggested you allow to decant for a few hours for this Burgundy style.
About the Wine +
The wine is accessible and very balanced right now, yet still has many promising years ahead. Its rich benchmark Pinot Noir flavors are delicately layered and quite complex. The wine will pair beautifully with grilled tuna or salmon, venison or Burgundian beef based dishes, and of course, cheese such as Epoisses, Langres, or Brillat-Savarin.
It is most fitting we offer as one of our first wines--quality for such a star lot, prominent in gaining worldwide dominance, and history rich in spreading social good over many decades.
The world famous Hospices de Beaune, founded in 1443, is the most famous charity wine auction. "Every year, on the third Sunday of November, the renowned candlelight auction of the Hospices de Beaune estate takes place, facilitated by generous donations over the centuries." It has thrived on donations of prestigious Burgundian vineyards, and now boasts a total 61 hectares of 1er and grand cru vineyards, all superbly placed. There are now 44 cuvees sold annually. The history of this extended family is interesting in that it has produced five mayors of Beaune since the Brunet's 16th century origins.
The 150th Hospices de Beaune, November, 2010, marked a record sale for the charity wine auction in both price and liters.
About the Winery +
The wine was aged in Champy's centuries old cellars [they are the oldest negociant in Beaune] for approximately 17 months in rigorously selected one year old barrels, and bottled unfined and unfiltered. It has been kept at perfect temperature control at Champy Winery from the moment of its creation.
